Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 13

Maggie Chapin (Shawnee, Kan.) is the Pitcher of the Week honoree for games played April 6-12, it was announced today. In addition, PC outfielder
Ava Coggins (Bremen, Ga.) is the Freshman of the Week recipient.
Duke batted .412 (7-17) with three runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles and five walks while recording a .529 slugging percentage and .545 on-base average in helping the Blue Hose clinch their Big South series at Gardner-Webb. She had two hits and three walks in a midweek doubleheader split at Furman, then tallied five hits in 12 at-bats against GWU. Duke singled in the series opener, had two hits and two walks in PC’s 12-2 game two win, and then hit a pair of doubles with five RBI in the finale -- driving in the series-clinching run in the top of the 9th in the 11-10 victory. Duke extended her on-base streak to 23 consecutive games in the process.
Chapin went 2-0 in the circle with a 2.00 earned run average, two complete games, 12 hits allowed and 11 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work. She opened her week with a complete game four-hit shutout of Radford on Friday, as she limited the Highlanders to a .160 batting average while fanning eight batters in a 1-0 victory. Chapin clinched the series for the Lancers with another complete game with three strikeouts in the 6-5 victory in the finale.
Coggins hit .412 (7-17) with five runs scored, three RBI, two sacrifice hits and a stolen base. She opened with three hits and two runs in a twinbill with Furman, and batted .444 in the Gardner-Webb series. Coggins had a hit, walk, RBI and run scored in the Blue Hose’s 12-2 victory, and then helped PC complete a five-run comeback to win the finale. With PC down to its final out in the seventh inning, she laid down a two-run single (her third hit of the game) to send the contest into extra innings. In the bottom of the 9th, Coggins recorded the final out in foul territory to cement Presbyterian's first conference series win on the road since 2023.
