CHARLOTTE, N.C. (

Jaylen Hernandez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while Radford’s
Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played April 13-19, it was announced today. In addition, Winthrop’s
Harrison Wilson (Fort Mill, S.C.) was selected as the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while Gardner-Webb relief pitcher
Colby Putnam (Shelby, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Hernandez batted .500 (7-for-14) with three solo home runs and six runs scored in Winthrop’s perfect 4-0 week. He posted a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage while totaling 16 bases and drawing two walks. The junior opened the weekend series against USC Upstate with a 3-for-3 performance that included a solo home run and a walk. He followed with a 2-for-4 outing with two runs scored and another solo shot before closing the sweep with a 2-for-5 day, scoring twice and homering for the third straight game to extend his league-leading total to 14 on the season. Hernandez also scored a run in a midweek win at Elon.
Quintana allowed just two hits over 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the series-clinching win for Radford against Gardner-Webb. He struck out three, walked three and carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before allowing his first hit with two outs. The junior right-hander faced 25 batters and held opponents to a .091 batting average, surrendering only two singles as part of a combined 3-0 shutout that secured the series.
Wilson recorded a win and a save in Winthrop’s undefeated week, allowing one run on two hits over 4.0 innings while holding opponents to a .167 batting average. He opened the weekend with a three-inning save against USC Upstate, his fourth of the season, striking out two. Wilson returned in the 10th inning of Sunday’s finale to earn the win, closing out the sweep and securing Winthrop’s first series sweep of the Spartans in program history.
Putnam earned a win at Radford after tossing 6.0 innings out of the bullpen while allowing no earned runs on six hits while striking out two. The freshman turned in the longest outing of his career, entering in the fourth inning and going the distance after the Highlanders had already plated eight runs. Radford managed two unearned runs in the fifth before Putnam went on to shut them out for the final four innings. He held 24 batters faced to a .273 opponent average while not issuing a single walk.
