Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 20
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- USC Upstate outfielder
Sophia Kardatzke (Jacksonville, Fla.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Presbyterian College’s
Peyton Duncan (Tabor City, N.C.) and USC Upstate’s
Maddie Drerup (Fort Mill, S.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week honoree for games played April 13-19, it was announced today. In addition, Presbyterian College infielder
Hali Duke (Bremen, Ga.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Kardatzke batted .500 in three games against ETSU and Wofford, recording a hit in each game to help USC Upstate to a 3-0 week. She recorded two hits and homered in game two against ETSU and against Wofford. She finished the week slugging 1.100 while recording six RBI and two home runs.
Duncan was responsible for both of PC’s wins over Charleston Southern, allowing zero earned runs across nine innings of work. She entered in relief in the opener and recorded the final six outs of the 7-5 win while only allowing one hit. She would go on to throw a complete game to clinch the series, only allowing three hits while striking out five during the 6-2 win.
Drerup threw two complete game winners last week, including her sixth shutout of the year in the game one win over ESTU, tying her season-high with five strikeouts. She followed up on this performances by throwing another five strikeout complete game for the Spartans, helping Upstate to a 6-2 win over crosstown rival Wofford.
Duke hit .400 while recording a .455 on-base percentage and slugging .700 during a Big South series win over Charleston Southern. She recorded a hit in every game, including a double and a triple in the bookend games of the series.
