High Point Leads 2026 Women's Golf Championship After First Round
FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –
High Point finished with a 5-over 293 and holds an 11-shot lead after the first round of the 2026 Big South Women's Golf Championship on Sunday. It is the first time since 2023 that HPU has held the top spot on the Conference Championship leaderboard following the first round of the tournament.
Radford and
Winthrop are tied for second behind the Panthers at 304 (+16), while
Gardner-Webb sits in fourth-place at 305 (+17). The Championship is being contested at the Ocean Creek Golf Course (par 72, 6,032 yards) on Fripp Island, S.C.
Ten strokes separate the next four teams, as
Longwood holds the fifth position at 310.
Charleston Southern is next at 312, followed by
UNC Asheville (seventh, 314) and
Presbyterian (eighth, 215), while
USC Upstate stands ninth at 325.
Individually, four players finished under-par on Sunday, with Gardner-Webb's
Georgia Barr atop the leaderboard with a 3-under 69. She holds a one stroke advantage over High Point's
Makayla Grubb and Winthrop's
Constança Mendonça, who are at 2-under 70. HPU's
Eva Lye was 1-under on Sunday, with Presbyterian's
Taylor Reaves rounding out the top five with her even-par 72. Barr, Mendonça, Lye and PC's
Sloane Spessard all made five birdies on the afternoon, with Reaves recording the lone eagle -- which came on the par-5, 455-yard No. 10 hole.
