Charleston Southern's Dewi John Wins 2026 Men's Golf Championship Medalist Honors

FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern's Dewi John posted his third consecutive under-par round and fended off several challengers to capture Medalist honors at the Big South Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Ocean Creek Golf Course (par 71, 6,546 yards) on Fripp Island, S.C.  John, who was the 36-hole co-leader with defending Medalist Jeep Patrick of Presbyterian, finished with a 2-under par 69 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 7-under-par 206 (69-68-69) to become CSU's first Big South Men's Golf Championship Medalist since 2016.  John also has secured automatic entry into the NCAA Regionals with this victory.

Patrick finished in a three-way tie for runner-up with first round leader Alec Prentice and Winthrop's Ashton Eubanks, as all three players finished the tournament at 5-under 208.  Eubanks moved up four spots on the final leaderboard with a 67, which tied for the low round of the day and helped the Eagles move into the top four in the team standings.  Gardner-Webb's Jack Boyer and Winthrop's Dylan Park completed the championship at 4-under, and the five players joined John on the Big South All-Championship Team. 

In the team standings, Presbyterian finished as the 54-hole stroke play leader for the first time, as the Blue Hose totaled a team aggregate 282 on Tuesday to finish at 848 (-4) to clinch the top seed in Wednesday's Match Play Semifinal round.  Defending Match Play Champion USC Upstate finished one stroke behind PC at 3-under, while Winthrop and High Point tied for third at 851 (-1) for the final two Match Play berths.

Wednesday’s Match Play Championship Semifinal round will feature Presbyterian College against High Point starting on hole one, and USC Upstate vs. Winthrop beginning on hole 10.   The winners of each match will play in the championship final Wednesday afternoon, with the champion receiving the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.  The Match Play round can be followed via Clippd's Live Scoring platform.
