HIGH POINT, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) High Point scored 123.5 team points thanks to five gold medals and 12 podium finishes to win its sixth-straight Big South Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship title on Wednesday with a final total of 263.5 points, becoming just the second program in conference history to win six consecutive championships.  Charleston Southern finished runner-up with 167 points -- the program’s highest finish since 1997, followed by USC Upstate in third with 122.5 points.

Gardner-Webb’s Quentin Peterson started the day repeating as the discus champion with a throw of 55.68m.  High Point then reeled off wins in the high jump (Shaun Thomas, 2.09m), the 1,500m (Gavin Stevens, 3:45.67), and the 110m Hurdles (Dominiq Northington, 14.04).  In addition, Camerin Williams won his second consecutive 800m title with a time of 1:49.05, and the Panthers sealed the team title with a victory in the 4x400m relay (3:09.08) for their third-straight crown in that event.

Charleston Southern’s Laden Beckwith claimed both the 100m (Championship Meet-record 10.09) and 200m (20.54) races, while USC Upstate’s Shriyaan Krishnaraj won the 400m Hurdles for the second consecutive year with a time of 51.69.

Winthrop was the Big South champion in the 4x100m relay (40.43) for the first time since 2003.  Charleston Southern’s Aden Price was the victor in the 400m (46.06), and CSU’s Martin Iriondo won the 5,000m in a time of 14:22.07.

Iriondo accumulated 28 overall points to earn him the Most Valuable Athlete award.  Beckwith claimed Freshman of the Year honors for having the most accumulated points by a freshman with 21.  High Point’s Cole Wilson earned Most Outstanding Performance based on having the highest ranking performance nationally at the meet using current TFFRS marks, as his decathlon-winning score of 7,777 ranks 10th in the country.  Radford’s Tyrique Taylor and High Point’s Nigel Steenwinkel shared the Newcomer of the Year award, which was added in 2024 to recognize the top non-freshman transfer competing in the Big South for the first time.  Both finished with 12 accumulated points.  High Point was voted Coaching Staff of the Year by the league coaches at the conclusion of the meet, while Gardner-Webb’s Blaine Blose was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s track & field communications contacts.
