High Point Wins 2026 Big South Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship
HIGH POINT, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –
High Point won seven events on Wednesday, with notable finishes in the 5,000m and javelin that were the difference in pushing the Panthers to a final total of 269 team points and win the 2026 Big South Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship title. High Point won the program’s sixth consecutive crown and finished 22 points ahead of second-place
Charleston Southern, which finished with 247 points -- the school’s highest-ever team score in the Big South Championship.
Radford finished in third-place with 99 points.
HPU held a 10-point lead going into the last four events, and pulled away from the Buccaneers thanks to victories from
Zamesha Myle in both the 100m (11.46) and 200m (23.11),
Brianna Malone in the 5,000m run (17:01.01) and
Moriah Evans in the javelin (47.53m). The Panthers were also buoyed with wins in the 4x100m relay -- which featured a Championship Meet-record time of 44.60; plus Malone’s victory in the 1,500m run (4:23.51), and
Vanessa Kobialka’s Championship Meet-record and overall Big South record performance of 52.89m to win the discus.
Charleston Southern placed an individual on the podium stand in all 13 events on Wednesday with a total of 17 medals in recording its third consecutive runner-up finish. The Bucs’
Maeva Tahou won the 100m Hurdles in a Championship Meet-record time of 13.25,
Grenisha Thomas was the victor in the 400m Hurdles (58.64) for the second consecutive time, and CSU won its fourth-straight 4x400m relay with a Meet record effort of 3:34.61.
In other action, Gardner-Webb’s
Paige Boyd started the afternoon by winning the high jump with a leap of 1.74m to become GWU’s first Big South high jump champion since 2014. Radford’s
Jeylah Hamrick won the 400m race in 52.81, while UNC Asheville’s
Alison Graf took home the 800m title in 2:06.16 -- Asheville’s first 800m conference champion since 2013.
Tahou accumulated 50.5 overall points to earn her the Most Valuable Athlete award, and she also earned the Most Outstanding Performance based on having the highest ranking performance nationally at the meet using current TFFRS marks, as her triple jump winning distance of 13.34m ranks 14th in the country. Myle clinched the Newcomer of the Year award, which was added in 2024 to recognize the top non-freshman transfer competing in the Big South for the first time, based on her 36.5 accumulated points. Gardner-Webb’s
Hannah Hoffman claimed Freshman of the Year honors for having the most accumulated points by a freshman with 13.
High Point was voted Coaching Staff of the Year by the league coaches at the conclusion of the meet, while Charleston Southern’s
Chloe Greene was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s track & field communications contacts.
