LEXINGTON, Ky. – On the final day of the NCAA Track & Field East First Round Championships, Mya Hines of the High Point University women's track and field team earned her ticket to the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon in the women's high jump. She becomes the first women's high jumper to qualify for HPU in program history as she advanced for first time in her career. She will join four other Panthers who qualified, making it the most athletes to qualify for HPU.

"Mya had an exceptional competition," Assistant Coach Hillary Holmes stated. "To have clean jumps and a PB is not an easy task, especially in an NCAA qualifying round starting with 48 competitors and ending with 12. She had no misses until the last bar which set her placing up for success. We talked about consistency and she did just that. Mya got in her groove, defended the team, and I am very proud of her. Looking forward to Eugene for NCAA Finals!

Hines was outstanding. She cleared her first three bars with ease on her first attempts, setting herself up for success to make the top 12. Her third bar of 1.79m was the bar that secured her spot, breaking her own personal best and the HPU program record. Hines will compete at the NCAA Championships on June 13 at 7:30 PM ET.

Along with Hines, Vanessa Kobialka and Ashlyn Giles competed in the discus. Kobialka registered a 50.90m throw and Giles recorded a 50.91m throw. Zamesha Myle represented HPU in the triple jump and registered a 13.20m mark, falling one spot out of the top 12 in 13th by .01cm. Shaun Thomas competed in the men's high jump on Friday evening.
