High Point Defeats No. 11/25 Virginia; Asheville Ties #3/10 Furman
Big South men's soccer collected two notable results at nationally-ranked opponents on Monday, as High Point won at Virginia, 3-2, while UNC Asheville played to a draw with Furman.

Until the final whistle, the 16th-ranked High Point University men's soccer team kept fighting in a back-and-forth tilt at 11th-ranked University of Virgina. It proved huge as Aidan Morrison sealed the deal in the 88th minute — with his first goal in Purple & White — to propel the Panthers past the Cavaliers, 3-2, at Klöckner Stadium on Monday night.
The victory was HPU's first win over UVA in the Division I era as the first was in 1941, while it was the first meeting in which both teams were ranked in the top-25 and the first matchup between the programs since 2023. The ranked result marked the Panthers' first in 2026 and HPU's fourth win over a ranked opponent since 2024.
The Panthers were the first to strike, scoring in the 12th minute thanks to Daniel Lugo's second score in as many games. Alfred Baafi crossed the ball into the box, where Ashton Miles got a touch before it eventually made its way to Lugo, who one-tapped the ball into the back-left corner of the net. It was Miles' first assist as a Panther and Baafi's third assist in two games.

UNC Asheville Men's Soccer battled to a 1-1 draw at No. 3/2 Furman on Monday night (Aug. 24). The Bulldogs were able to apply pressure early, with two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes. On the second attempt, Lennart Granzow was taken down hard from behind and after a VAR review the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick. Tyler Ware stepped up to the spot and buried his first goal as a Bulldog and first penalty kick goal of his college career for a 1-0 Asheville lead.
