Big South Volleyball Players of the Week - Sept. 8

Paige Bennett (Pleasanton, Calif.) has been selected the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 31-Sept. 6, it was announced today. In addition, teammate
Lexi Thatcher (Indianapolis, Ind.) is the Setter of the Week, while Presbyterian’s
Celimar Hoyos (Caguas, Puerto Rico) was voted the Libero of the Week. Gardner-Webb outside hitter
Peyton Slone (Clearwater, Fla.) was selected Freshman of the Week.
Bennett recorded 37 kills (4.63 per set), a .346 hitting clip, 18 digs (2.25 per set) and 39.0 points (4.88 per set) in leading the Eagles to wins over Virginia Tech (3-0) and Old Dominion (3-2) at the Winthrop Invitational. She opened her week with a match-high 15 kills on .303 hitting, in addition to seven digs in the sweep of the Hokies on Thursday. Bennett then tied her career-high with 22 kills while hitting .378 in the five-set win over the Monarchs on Saturday. She tallied 23.0 points and 11 digs against ODU en route to Tournament MVP honors.
Thatcher was named to the Winthrop Invitational All-Tournament team after posting 77 assists (9.63 per set) and 30 digs (3.75 per set) in the Eagles’ victories over Virginia Tech and Old Dominion. She opened with a match-high 35 assists while leading Winthrop with 12 digs in the win over Virginia Tech. Thatcher followed with a 42-assist, 18-dig double-double in the five-set triumph over ODU. She helped Winthrop finish with a .292 attack percentage in the two matches.
Hoyos totaled 82 digs (5.13 per set) along with four service aces to help Presbyterian to a 2-2 week. After starting with 23 digs at Wofford on Tuesday, Hoyos posted a 19-dig, 10-assist double at Furman on Thursday. In PC’s 3-1 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday, she produced 15 digs and nine assists, and concluded the weekend with 25 digs and nine handouts in a four-set victory over Queens on Saturday.
Slone hit .364 (45-13-88) with 46.5 points (4.23 per set) and 4.09 kills per set to lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 3-0 week with wins over N.C. Central, UNC Wilmington and Alabama State. She opened with 10 kills vs. NCCU, and followed with 21 kills and a .304 attack percentage against UNCW. Slone capped her week with a .684 hitting clip (14-1-19) and two blocks in the sweep over Alabama State.
