Charleston Southern WR Eddie Gadson Dies in Auto Accident
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Charleston Southern wide receiver Eddie Gadson died in a car accident early Friday morning. Gadson would have been a sophomore for the Bucs this year.
Gadson led the Buccaneer receiving corps last year with 69 catches for 792 yards. He averaged 79 yards/game last season. Gadson came to CSU as a walk-on but after redshirting his freshman year, earned a scholarship for the Bucs.
The Stockbridge, Ga. native was a pre-season favorite to receive all-conference honors this season after being named to the first team all-conference last season. Gadson, an elementary education major was coming off his best academic semester at CSU. He had aspirations of teaching and becoming a coach after his time at Charleston Southern. Gadson had also considered joining the Air Force, following in his parent's footsteps.
Gadson is the son of Edward and Paula Gadson and was born in the Phillipines on October 7, 1984.
The service will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at the Cannon Cleveland Funeral Home. The viewing will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and will also be held at the Cannon Cleveland Funeral home in McDonough, Ga.
The Gadson family is setting up a scholarship fund in Gadson's name to be given anually to a non-scholarship football player who shows the same heart that Gadson was known for. Gadson's parents are asking that instead of flowers, that gifts be given to the Edward A. Gadson Memorial Scholarship fund. Checks should be made out to Charleston Southern University but noted that it is for the Edward A. Gadson Memorial Scholarship. Those gifts can be sent to the development office at:
