Big South Announces Volleyball Players of the Week - Oct. 2

(Neenah, Wis.) has been named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Also, Winthrop junior defensive specialist Carlie Skelton
(Florence, S.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Charleston Southern freshman middle blocker Kalysia Bates
(Phenix City, Ala.) is the Freshman of the Week for matches played Sept. 25-30.
Barnes led the conference in kills last week with 4.83 per set after sweeping Campbell and Radford to help move High Point into first place. She also recorded a .418 hitting percentage, 14 digs (2.33 per set) and 33 points (5.50 per set). Barnes had 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage in a sweep at Campbell. She then tallied 15 kills with a .500 hitting percentage in a sweep against previously unbeaten Radford.
Skelton recorded 43 digs in Winthrop’s two wins last week with back-to-back 20 dig performances. She opened with 22 digs in a victory against Presbyterian in a match that went to five sets. Skelton then followed that up with 21 digs in a four-set win at home against Gardner-Webb.
Bates helped Charleston Southern go 2-0 during the second week of conference play. She had 19 kills (2.38 per set) and 13 blocks (1.62 per set). Bates began the week with eight kills, a .294 hitting percentage and four blocks in a sweep at home versus Gardner-Webb. She then upped her totals to 11 kills and 9 blocks in a five-set win against Presbyterian.
