Big South Announces Football Players of the Week - Nov. 20
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Kennesaw State quarterback Chandler Burks (Douglasville, Ga.) has been named the Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Owls’ linebacker Bryson Armstrong (Marrietta, Ga.) has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for games played the final week of the regular-season. Charleston Southern kicker Tyler Tekac (Goose Creek, S.C.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week, and Presbyterian College running back Torrance Marable (Decatur, Ga.) is the Freshman of the Week.
Burks led Kennesaw State to the outright Big South championship as he tied the Big South single-game record of four rushing touchdowns in addition to 131 rushing yards in the Owls’ 52-21 win over Monmouth. He added a TD pass and 114 passing yards to finish the afternoon with 245 yards of offense (8.75 yards per play).
Armstrong led the Owls with 10 total tackles (eight solo) and recorded 1.5 tackles-for-loss, including a sack. He also forced one fumble and recovered another. He helped KSU compile a program record-tying five turnovers as well as keep the Hawks off the scoreboard in the second half.
Tekac delivered the game-winning field goal for the second time this season as he booted a 42-yard attempt into a strong wind and through the uprights with :01 second remaining to lift the Bucs to a 20-19 win over Liberty. He initially gave CSU a 17-16 lead on a 24-yard field goal with 6:56 remaining, and also converted both PAT attempts to finish with eight points.
Marable rushed for a career-high 186 yards on 16 carries in the Blue Hose’s 31-21 win over Gardner-Webb. He scored on a 78-yard run to open the second-half that gave PC the lead for good, and also had runs of 29, 28 and 21 yards during drives that resulted in points. Marable added two receptions for 41 yards and finished with 227 all-purpose yards.
