Liberty Wins 2017 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

CHARLESTON, S.C. (BigSouthSports.com) – The Liberty women’s track & field team won the 2017 Big South Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Friday afternoon, with 253 points.
Campbell finished the championship in second with 162 points, while High Point finished with 120 points for third. Charleston Southern took the fourth spot with 102 points, Gardner-Webb took fifth with 52, and Winthrop took sixth with 48 points. Radford ended the championship in seventh place with 47 points and UNC Asheville rounded out the standings in eighth place with 33 points.
With a throw of 12.51m, Campbell junior Sabina Allen took first in the triple jump this morning. She was followed by Liberty’s Janae Jones who tallied a mark of 12.43m for second, while Campbell’s Shenelle McKay placed third with a jump of 11.79m. In the shot put, Liberty junior Dasiana Larson placed first with a throw of 13.97m. Charleston Southern freshman Alexus Foreman placed second with a throw of 13.28m, while Radford’s Naihla Rose-Delia placed third with a throw of 13.09m.
In the 4x100m relay, Charleston Southern’s TeJyrica Robinson, Jasmine Pilgrim, Alexis Adams, and Kolisha Coleman took first with a time of 46.05. Liberty’s team of Dana Mercer, Tanner Ealum, Olivia Behymer, and Nicole Leonzo took second with a time of 46.52, while Radford’s Tenae Washington, Kierra Henderson, Jessica Shelton, La’Tisha Chambers took third with a time of 47.50.
In the 1,500m run, High Point’s Cozette Collin took first for the second year in a row with a time of 4:35.44. Cozette was followed by Anna Van Wyk from Liberty who finished second with a time of 4:36.91. High Point senior Natalia Ocasio rounded out the top three with a time of 4:38.32.
In the 100m hurdles, Lilla Juhasz from Campbell tallied first place with a time of 13.60, while teammate Tatiana Wolfe took second with a time of 13.85. Winthrop’s Alesha Love finished closely after Wolfe with a time of 13.87. In the 400m dash, Ealum from Liberty crossed the finish line first with a time of 54.65. Teammate Behymer followed in second with a time of 54.99, while Racheal Brown finished third with a time of 55.67.
In the 800m, Liberty sophomore Delaney McDowell finished first with a time of 2:10.55. High Point’s Collin finished just after McDowell with a time of 2:10.77 for second, while Roshae Jackson from Campbell finished in third with a time of 2:11.88. In the 100m dash, Campbell’s Janai Scott and Isis Brooks took first and third with times of 11.69 and 11.82, respectively. Pilgrim from Charleston Southern took second with a time of 11.80.
Winthrop’s Love tallied first with a time of 59.39 in the 400m hurdles, while Liberty’s Mary Witmer took second with a time of 59.84. Campbell’s Wolfe rounded out the top three in the event with a time of 59.93. In the 200m dash, Scott from Campbell took first with a time of 23.95, followed by Kolisha Coleman from Charleston Southern who took second with a time of 24.34, and Brooks from Campbell took third with a time of 24.46.
In the 5,000m run, Anna Van Wyk from Liberty ran a time of 17:42.69 for first, while Campbell’s Joan Maritim took second with a time of 17:51.74. Zoe Geis, a freshman from High Point, finished third with a time of 18:06.72. In the 4x400m relay, Liberty took first with a time of 3:42.31, Campbell took second with a time of 3:48.03 and Charleston Southern took third with a time of 3:49.10.
