Seedings Announced for 2018 Big South Baseball Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the first time in five seasons,
Campbell is the No. 1 seed in the Big South Baseball Championship presented by Hardee’s, which will be contested May 22-26 at the Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. The Camels captured their first outright Big South regular-season championship in program history and second overall.
Campbell, which finished the 2018 Big South season in first-place with a 21-6 conference record, will attempt to win its fourth Big South Championship and first since 2014. The Big South Championship tournament is a double-elimination format and features eight squads competing for the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals -- highlighted by a “Winner-Take-All” championship game on Saturday, May 26 that will be televised live on ESPNU. First pitch of the title game will be 12:00pm.
2018 Bracket
High Point finished a pair of games behind Campbell with a school-record 19 conference wins and earned the No. 2 seed. The Panthers will seek their first Big South tournament crown in program history.
Liberty, which will host this year’s tournament, will be in the same pod as the Panthers, as it earned the No. 3 seed with a 17-10 league record. The Flames won the tournament crown in 2013 as the host and seek their fifth in program history.
Winthrop, which won the regular-season title a season ago, closed out 2018 with a 15-12 league mark to claim the No. 4 seed. The Eagles are in search of their first title since 2005 and fifth overall.
Gardner-Webb and
Radford tied for the fifth spot in the final conference standings with matching 14-13 records. With the Runnin’ Bulldogs season sweep over the Highlanders in March, GWU receives the No. 5 seed, while Radford fell to the No. 6 slot. The Highlanders are the defending champions and have won two of the last three Big South championships.
Rounding out the field is No. 7 seed
Charleston Southern (10-17) and No. 8 seed
Longwood (9-18). The Lancers claimed their spot on the final day of the season with a home win over Gardner-Webb. CSU makes its first appearance in the postseason after a two-year hiatus.
The Championship begins Tuesday, May 22 with four games scheduled on the Big South Network (BSN) -- No. 2 High Point vs. No. 7 Charleston Southern at 9:30am, No. 3 Liberty vs. No. 6 Radford 45 minutes after Game 1, No. 1 Campbell vs. No. 8 Longwood at 4:30pm and No. 4 Winthrop vs. No. 5 Gardner-Webb 45 minutes after Game 3.
