Big South Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 23

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Presbyterian College junior forward Morgan Hutchison (Athens, Tenn.) has been named Big South Women’s Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while Campbell senior defender Callie Beckwith (Fulton, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 16-22, it was announced today by the conference office.  In addition, Radford defender Mia Wood (Atlanta, Ga.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
 
Hutchison scored a pair of goals and added an assist in Presbyterian’s perfect 2-0 record last week. On Tuesday, the junior scored the overtime winner in the 105th minute to fend off South Carolina State, 3-2. Prior to the goal, she assisted on PC’s equalizer in the 51st minute to eventually send the match into extra time. In the conference opener against Longwood on Saturday, she evened the score at 1-1 in the 24th minute with her second goal of the week. The Blue Hose eventually claimed a 2-1 win in overtime.
 
Beckwith anchored a backline that posted its fifth shutout this season and its second in as many matches. The Camels held UNC Asheville to just two shots on goal and without a corner kick in the match, as they claimed a 2-0 victory to open league play on Saturday.
 
Wood played the full 90 minutes in the Radford backline to help secure the clean sheet in a 1-0 home victory over Winthrop to begin conference on Saturday. Wood and the Highlanders held the Eagles to just five shots on goal for the match. After Radford scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 79th minute, Wood and the Highlanders held Winthrop without a shot on goal to secure the clean sheet.
