CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) Campbell University has been chosen as the favorites in the Big South Conference’s annual women's basketball preseason poll for the 2020-21 season, it was announced this morning.

Campbell is the women’s preseason favorite for the first time during its Big South affiliation (1986-94, 2011-present), as the program’s highest finish in the preseason poll since re-joining the league in 2011-12 was third (twice), while its previous top standing was second five consecutive years from 1987-92.  Last year’s regular-season champion with a 16-4 mark, the Camels received six of the 11 first-place votes and 112 total points to win the conference in 2020-21.  Campbell returns three starters and 11 letterwinners from last year’s squad that won a league-best 21 overall games.

Radford was voted second in the women’s poll with 107 points and collected two first-place votes.  High Point was third with 104 points and received the three remaining first-place votes, while Hampton finished with 86 points for the fourth spot.  Gardner-Webb was fifth with 70 points, followed by Longwood in sixth with 66 points -- matching the Lancers’ top preseason billing as Big South members.  UNC Asheville landed in the seventh spot (56 points), ahead of Presbyterian College (eighth, 48 points) and USC Upstate (ninth, 30 points).  Charleston Southern claimed the 10th position (24 points) and Winthrop rounded out the poll with 23 points.

The college basketball season tips off Wednesday, Nov. 25.  The first conference date is currently Tuesday, Dec. 15, and the season culminates with the 2021 Hercules Tires Big South Women's Basketball Championship March 9-14.
