Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 15

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Gardner-Webb senior guard/forward Jhessyka Williams (Augusta, Ga.) and UNC Asheville guard Nadiria Evans (Gainesville, Fla.) have been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while High Point guard Nakyah Terrell (Canton, Ohio.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played the opening week of the 2021-22 regular-season, it was announced today.

Williams averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 52.0 percent from the field (13-of-25) against two SEC opponents.  She opened the season with 22 points, eight boards, five steals and 8-of-15 from the floor at Vanderbilt on Tuesday.  Williams then scored 18 points, grabbed six caroms, had three steals and was 8-of-10 from the free throw line at Georgia on Thursday, while going 5-of-10 from the field.

Evans averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two games last week.  After opening with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists at UNC Greensboro last Tuesday, Evans scored 31 points with five boards, four assists and three steals in an overtime win at Western Carolina on Friday. 

In her first collegiate action, Terrell averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals in three games, while going 11-of-20 from the field ( =55.0) and 3-of-5 from three-point range ( =60.0).  She scored seven points with three rebounds and three assists against Elon, had six points, five boards and five helpers in a win over East Carolina, and tallied a season-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting against Mid-Atlantic Christian.

Also nominated for Player of the Week: Taya Bolden (Campbell), Callie Scheier (High Point), Akila Smith (Longwood), Chanin Scott (North Carolina A&T), Ashley Tudor (Radford) and Chellia Watson (USC Upstate).

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Audrey Fuller (Campbell), Layken Cox (Gardner-Webb), Kennedy Calhoun (Longwood), Jordyn Dorsey (North Carolina A&T), Jordaynia Ivie (UNC Asheville) and Rachael Rose (USC Upstate).
