4th-seeded Winthrop scored two first half goals and cruised to a 3-0 win over 5th-seeded Presbyterian College, Sunday evening in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Tournament.

Game Recap
  • Eagles had a good chance in the 9th minute when Brigham Larsen slipped a ball into the box as Ethan Stevenson ran on with a good look on goal but Valentin Kliebe stood tall making the save
  • Stevenson came through in the 21st minute as he headed home a corner kick at the near post from Christopher Cushing
  • Eagles grabbed a two goal advantage in the 30th minute as Stevenson broke free down the left and served a ball in front for Larsen into the open net
  • In the 60th minute, William Cardona intercepted a pass out of the back and then played a pass to the middle of the field to Ben Goodman
  • Goodman took a touch and then placed a shot from about 25-30 yards out into the top right corner for a 3-0 lead
  • Sean Green nearly made it 4-0 in the 69th minute when his shot from outside the box pinged off the crossbar
  • In the 84th minute it was Green again as he blasted a low shot that was just tipped wide by Kliebe

  • Winthrop finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots and 8-4 in shots on goal
  • Eagles also had an 8-1 advantage in corners
  • Sam Jones made four saves for his third shutout of the season
  • This was the first conference tournament win for the Eagles since the 2015 semifinals whey they defeated Campbell

Eagles advance to the Big South Tournament semifinals as they'll travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on top-seeded Campbell on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.
