Big South Announces Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Dec. 8
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell’s Athanas Kioko (Machakos, Kenya) has been selected the Big South Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for competitions during the Dec. 2-5 opening weekend of the 2021-22 season, it was announced today. In addition, UNC Asheville’s Solomon McDonald (Carthage, N.C.) is the Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, and High Point’s Gabriel Ludwick (Faro, Portugal) is the Men’s Freshman of the Week.
Kioko opened his indoor campaign as the top collegian in the 3,000-meter run at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston with a personal-best time of 7:52.92, which is also tops in the nation after the opening weekend. His performance in the event is the third-best in Big South history.
McDonald won the shot put at the Appalachian State Invitational with a school-record distance of 18.06m (59-03.00). His mark is fourth all-time in the conference record book, and was the league’s top distance following the opening weekend.
Ludwick ran a 2:30.01 in the 1,000-meter run at the Liberty Kickoff to place fourth in the event.
