Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Winthrop sophomore guard Myra Strickland (Duluth, Ga.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville forward Abigail Wilson (China Grove, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 25-31, it was announced today.

Strickland averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists in leading the Eagles to a Big South sweep of Charleston Southern.  She opened with 19 points, six boards and three steals in Friday’s victory, and followed with 18 points, three helpers and two steals in Saturday’s win.  Strickland finished the two-game set 50.0 percent from the field (11-of-22), drained 8-of-17 three-pointers ( =47.1 percent) and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line ( =70.0).

Wilson scored a career-high 15 points on a 6-of-11 effort from the field in Asheville’s 78-69 win over Hampton last Friday.  She also snatched five rebounds -- including four on the offensive glass, along with two assists.
