Big South Announces Football Players of the Week - March 29
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Monmouth redshirt-sophomore Juwon Farri (Gaithersburg, Md.) has been named the Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate defensive lineman Lorenzo Hernandez (Cherry Hill, N.J.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for games played during the league’s fifth week of the spring season. Charleston Southern kicker Alex Usry (McDonough, Ga.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week, and Monmouth quarterback Tony Muskett (Springfield, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week.
Playing in his first game since 2018, Farri scored three times in Monmouth’s 35-17 season-opening win over Charleston Southern. He ran for 119 yards on a career-high 33 carries with touchdown runs of six, 26 and two yards in achieving his first career 3-TD game.
Hernandez had five tackles (four solo) along with 2.0 sacks for a loss of 15 yards. He also had a pass break-up, and was part of a defense that held CSU to just 28 yards rushing while recording five sacks and three interceptions. Hernandez’s first sack came on a third down play that forced a first quarter punt, while his second stop behind the line of scrimmage put the Bucs back 11 yards on a drive that ended with a turnover.
Usry connected on a 34-yard field goal at 10:17 in the first quarter to cut Monmouth’s lead to 7-3. It was his sixth consecutive field goal made dating back to the 2019 season. Usry was perfect on both PAT attempts to finish with five points.
In his first collegiate game, Muskett was 18-of-26 passing for 297 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions against the Buccaneers. The true freshman connected on a 70-yard TD strike on his sixth play from scrimmage to account for the game’s first score at 12:40 of the first period. Muskett also threw a 20-yard touchdown, and his 297 passing yards were the most by a Monmouth quarterback in his first game.
