Monmouth Claims Football Automatic Bid; Charleston Southern Defeats Robert Morris
Monmouth, ranked 20th coming into the contest, handed Kennesaw State a 42-17 loss at Kessler Stadium to win its second consecutive Big South Conference Championship on Saturday. With the victory, the Hawks earn the league's automatic qualifier to the 2021 Spring NCAA Playoffs. Monmouth will learn its opponent on April 18 at 11:30 during the selection show. The Monmouth defense held the second-ranked rushing attack in the country to 161 yards on 48 carries while forcing a pair of turnovers and recording six sacks. The Hawks didn't allow a touchdown until the game was put away, with Kennesaw scoring their first touchdown with 6:08 to play in the fourth quarter.
Paced by a pair of Terrence Wilson rushing touchdowns and Isaac Ross' first collegiate 100-yard receiving effort, Charleston Southern held off visiting Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Field, 27-14. The Bucs (1-2, 1-2 Big South) went on a 17-0 scoring run midway through the contest sparked by a 22-yard Jack Chambers-to-Ross touchdown pass late in the second quarter to secure their first win in the 2021 spring season. Chambers finished 20-of-33 from the field for 255 yards and a touchdown, while Ross hauled in seven passes for a career-high 102 yards and a score in CSU's win.
