#3 Campbell Wins 2020-21 Big South Women's Soccer Championship
Campbell women's soccer won its first Big South Championship since 1993 as the Camels downed previously undefeated No. 24 High Point 4-3, Friday evening at Vert Stadium.
Campbell (8-3-1) clinched its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2004.
The Camels snapped High Point's 10-game win streak after scoring more goals (4) than the Panthers had allowed all season (3). Campbell also set a program record for most goals scored in a single Big South Championship game.
Campbell struck early as Elyssa Nowowieski scored in the 2nd minute on an assist from Emily Kaestner. Nowowieski added a second goal mere moments later in the 10th minute, coming from an assist by Bayleigh Humbert.
Campbell added a third unanswered goal in the 33rd minute as Olivia Neal scored off of a volley from Amber Liston.
The Panthers responded in the 35th minute as Magdalena Schwarz scored, giving the Camels a 3-1 halftime advantage.
Jessica Donald scored another quick goal just 22 seconds following halftime after pressuring a kick by High Point's keeper, deflecting it towards the goal for an open net goal.
Schwarz added another score in the 49th minute while Big South Offensive Player of the Year Sam Gerhart netted a third goal for the Panthers in the 70th minute.
High Point tallied two more shots on goal but both opportunities were stopped by Campbell keeper Stephanie Martelli.
Elyssa Nowowieski was named Tournament MVP, joining Emily Kaestner, Hanna Maansson and Delaney Baumbick on the All-Tournament team.
