Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - May 10
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- USC Upstate’s Cameron MacIntosh (Gig Harbor, Wash.) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville’s Jacob Edwards (High Point, N.C.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played May 3-9, it was announced today. In addition, Winthrop’s Dalton Mims (Lexington, S.C.) was selected the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Ty Hooks (Parrish, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
MacIntosh batted .667 (10-15) with seven runs scored and four RBI in helping Upstate to three wins. He went 2-3 with a run scored in a midweek clash at Clemson, then went 8-12 in a three-game sweep of High Point. MacIntosh went 2-4 in the series opener, was 3-5 in game two, and went 3-3 with three runs and two RBI in the series finale.
Edwards allowed just one hit and an unearned run in 6.1 innings in a 3-2 win over Longwood. He struck out 10 batters and walked just two.
Mims made three relief appearances and posted one win and one save in 6.1 scoreless innings. After striking out two batters in 1.2 innings against Wofford last Tuesday, he picked up a relief victory against Charleston Southern with three hits allowed in 4.0 innings in the series opener against the Bucs. Mims then earned the save in Saturday’s game two with a strikeout in 0.2 innings on the hill.
Hooks batted .438 (7-16) with seven RBI, one double and one homer in four games last week. He was 2-3 vs. Wofford, then went 5-13 with all seven RBI in the series against Charleston Southern. Hooks was 2-5 with 2 RBI in the opener, 2-4 with 3 RBI in game two and had a single and 2 RBI in the finale.
