High Point Wins 2021 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships
HIGH POINT, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – High Point won its first Big South Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship title on Wednesday with a final total of 279.5 points. The Panthers won six events Wednesday and tallied 161.5 points on the final day to claim the championship.
Charleston Southern finished second with 137 points, while Campbell was third with 129 points. The final day saw four different schools win events.
FINAL RESULTS
USC Upstate’s Adanma Uzor won the triple jump, Charleston Southern captured both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay while Campbell teammates Dorcus Ewoi won the 1,500m and Ryan Jackson was the victor in the 200m. High Point’s Famke Heinst established a Big South Championship-meet record of 16:38.76 in winning the 5,000-meter run -- becoming the first three-time winner of the event in league history.
High Point’s Zoe Geis 28 accumulated points earned her the Most Valuable Athlete award, as she won both the 10,000m and the 3,000m Steeplechase, and was runner-up in the 5,000m.
High Point’s Lexi Crompton and Charleston Southern teammates Jewel Ash and Amanda Obijiaku shared Freshman of the Year honors for having the most accumulated points by a freshman with 23 each.
HPU’s Sydney Horn was tabbed Most Outstanding Performer based on having the highest ranking performance at the meet using current TFFRS marks, as her record-breaking effort in the pole vault on Tuesday is tops in the league and fourth in the country. Panthers’ Head Coach Mike Esposito was voted Coach of the Year by the league coaches at the conclusion of the meet. Charleston Southern’s Taylor Barnes was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s sports information directors.
