#4 Presbyterian College Stuns #1 Campbell in First Round
Behind three hits from
Zacchaeus Rasberry and a solid start from
Charlie McDaniel, the Presbyterian College baseball team knocked off top seed Campbell on Thursday afternoon in the opening game of the Ingles Big South Baseball Championship. McDaniel carried a no-hitter through 5.2 innings and Rasberry had a double, triple and home run at Segra Stadium on Thursday.
McDaniel dazzled on the mound for the Blue Hose as he held the Camels without a hit thru 5.2 innings en route to his fourth victory of the season. He tossed six innings allowing two hits, one run, and struck out six in the contest.
- PC offensively was led by Rasberry who had three hits including his ninth home run of the season. He also added his seventh double and second triple of the season in the victory.
- Rasberry currently holds a 20-game reached base streak to lead the team.
- Rasberry also is now in a tie for fourth in the Blue Hose DI record book for triples with six in his time with Presbyterian.
- Toth added the Blue Hose insurance with a three-run home run for his seventh long ball of the 2021 season.
- Toth finished off the Blue Hose day on the mound with his seventh save of the season as he tossed the final two innings to earn the save.
- With the save, Toth moves into a tie for fourth in the Blue Hose career DI record book and into a tie for third in the single-season DI record book for saves.
- Kyle Decker added a pair of knocks as well to help pace the Blue Hose 12-hit output.
- PC improves to 3-1 over Campbell in 2021 after taking two-of-three from the Camels earlier this season in Clinton.
- The Blue Hose moved to 12-4 in games where they outhit their opponents. PC also jumps to 14-6 in games where they scored six or more runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC struck first in the second inning with a leadoff home run from Rasberry to get the Blue Hose an early 1-0 lead.
- Rasberry continued his strong start in the third with an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.
- The Blue Hose left fielder continued his torrid pace at the dish in the sixth with an RBI triple to push the advantage to 3-0.
- The triple was quickly followed up with a ground-rule double from Boyd to give Presbyterian a 4-0 lead through 5.5 innings.
- Campbell got on the board in the seventh with an RBI single to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.
- In the ninth, the Blue Hose secured insurance with a three-run shot from Toth to give them a 7-1 advantage.
- Campbell added a run in the ninth but got no closer as Presbyterian pulled the upset of the tournament's top seed on Thursday afternoon.
