Big South Announces 2021-22 Men's Basketball League Schedule
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference revealed its 2021-22 men’s basketball composite league schedule Wednesday afternoon. Two six-team divisions return for the first time since 2013-14, and the 12 Big South members will play a 16-game schedule in 2021-22 featuring 10 intra-division contests and six cross-division meetings. The 96-game slate over an eight-week span begins on Wednesday, Jan. 5, and concludes Saturday, Feb. 26.
The North Division features Campbell, Hampton, High Point, Longwood, new member North Carolina A&T and Radford, while the South Division is comprised of Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate and Winthrop. The final five games of the regular-season will be intra-division match-ups.
Six Thursday national television appearances on ESPNU -- Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Feb. 10, Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 -- will be Wildcard selections 14-21 days in advance and chosen from the slate of Wednesday games scheduled the day before the respective broadcast date.
Opening night highlights include High Point hosting two-time defending Big South champion Winthrop and new Eagles head coach Mark Prosser in the new Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena. In addition, North Carolina A&T will host its first-ever Big South game that evening against Presbyterian. Also opening the conference season at home on Jan. 5 will be Campbell (vs. UNC Asheville), Charleston Southern (vs. Gardner-Webb), Hampton (vs. Longwood) and USC Upstate (vs. Radford and new head coach Darris Nichols).
Other notable games this coming season include Campbell at Winthrop on Jan. 8 in a rematch of last year’s Big South Championship game, and North Carolina A&T facing former conference rival Hampton on Jan. 12 in Greensboro and Feb. 16 in Hampton.
Campbell, High Point, North Carolina A&T and USC Upstate will start and end conference action at home, while Gardner-Webb, Longwood, Presbyterian and Radford will begin and finish league play with road games.
The season culminates with the 2022 Hercules Tires Big South Men’s Basketball Championship, which will be held at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C., from March 2-6. Four first round games will be Wednesday, March 2, followed by four quarterfinal contests on Friday, March 4. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 5, with the Championship game on Sunday, March 6.
