Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 31
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell midfielder Kemy Amiche (Goussainville, France) and UNC Asheville midfielder Brendan Herb (Corvallis, Oregon) have been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Campbell goalkeeper Edu Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 24-30, it was announced today. In addition, USC Upstate forward Marcus Wærn (Randers, Denmark) is the Freshman of the Week.
Amiche came off the bench and scored twice in a one-minute span to lift Campbell to a 3-0 win over Presbyterian. He scored the first goal of the game in the 80th minute, then added his second tally 60 seconds later to help the Camels pull away and take over first-place in the Big South standings.
Herb played a key role in Asheville's 2-1 win over Radford on Saturday, as he picked up a goal and assist in the Bulldogs’ comeback victory. He first assisted on Asheville’s equalizing score in the 79th minute, then buried a penalty shot in the 90th minute of play to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 win.
Rodriguez posted a 0.50 goals-against average in 180 minutes and finished with six saves during a 1-0-1 week. He made four saves in a 1-1 draw at UNCW, then posted his fourth shutout of the season in a two save performance against Presbyterian.
Wærn scored his first career goal this past Saturday against High Point, which was a 59th minute equalizer in the eventual 1-1 draw with the Panthers. His effort secured the Spartans a crucial point in the Big South standings and berth in the conference tournament.
