Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 14
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville forward Drew Pember (Knoxville, Tenn.) and High Point guard Jaden House (Richmond, Va.) have been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week, while Radford guard Kenyon Giles (Chesapeake, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played the opening week of the 2022-23 season, it was announced today.
Pember opened the 2022-23 campaign with 40 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals in Asheville’s 98-95 double-overtime win at UCF. Just the third Big South player in league history to score 40+ points in a season-opener, Pember was named the Collegeinsider.com Lou Henson National Player of the Week for this efforts, and finished the week averaging 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27), 44.4 from three-point range (4-of-9) and 92.3 percent from the charity stripe (12-of-13) in two games.
House turned in averages of 28.0 points and 2.5 assists, while shooting 72.0 percent from the field (18-of-25) and 84.2 from the free throw line (16-of-19) in helping High Point to two wins. He first scored a then-career-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the season opener vs. Pfeiffer, then dropped a personal-best 33 points in Saturday’s 91-80 win over Wofford. House was 10-of-15 from the floor and made 11-of-12 free throws against the Terriers while handing out four assists in 24 minutes of action.
Giles averaged 17.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 53.8 percent from the field in road games at Marquette and Notre Dame. He first scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting with three rebounds, an assist and steal at Marquette. Giles then went for 20 points (7-of-15 FG, 4-of-7 3FG) along with two steals and one block in Radford’s three-point loss at Notre Dame.
