CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville guard McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (Columbia, S.C.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Presbyterian guard Tilda Sjökvist (Huskvarna, Sweden) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 5-Dec. 11, it was announced today.

In two games, Brooks-Sumpter averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs. Opening the week at home against Furman, the redshirt-junior posted 15 points – one shy of a season-high – on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with four rebounds and a season-high two steals. The Columbia, S.C. native followed that up with another double-digit outing on Sunday, as she went 5-of-10 for 11 points with seven boards on the road at No. 7 Virginia Tech. She finished the week 12-of-22 from the field overall ( =54.5 percent) in 26.5 minutes of action per contest.

Sjökvist continued her strong start to the 2022-23 season as the freshman scored eight points while dishing out four assists, grabbing two rebounds at Florida last Tuesday in Presbyterian’s only game of the week. She also registered one steal. Named Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time, she connected on a pair of triples against the Gators – one in each of the first two quarters – and posted at least four assists for the sixth time in nine contests for the Blue Hose. It marks the third time in program history that Presbyterian has had a back-to-back Freshman of the Week winner.

Also nominated for Player of the Week: Claire Wyatt (High Point) and Núria Cunill (Presbyterian).
