Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 19
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville forward Drew Pember (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Campbell guard Anthony Dell’Orso (Melbourne, Australia) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 12-18, it was announced today.
Pember helped the Bulldogs win two road games with 14.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 3.5 assists. He opened with 16 points and a season-high 18 rebounds last Tuesday at South Carolina State, in addition to three assists and three blocks. Pember then logged another double-double on Saturday with 13 points and 12 boards at East Tennessee State, and hit the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to give Asheville a 74-73 victory. He also posted five blocks and four helpers in the win.
Dell’Orso averaged 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 assists as the Camels went 1-1 last week. He first had 10 points, four boards and a season-high four steals in 23 minutes against William Peace on Wednesday. Dell’Orso then tallied 14 points along with three caroms and two steals in a one-point setback at Georgia Southern. For the week, he shot 50.0 percent from the field (8-of-16) and made all six free throw attempts.
