Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - March 14
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Campbell’s Zach Neto (Miami, Fla.) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while teammate Thomas Harrington (Sanford, N.C.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played March 7-13, it was announced today. In addition, UNC Asheville’s Blake Little (Matthews, N.C.) was selected the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while Radford’s Ty Dooley (Elgin, S.C.) and Gardner-Webb’s Tyler Switalski (Waynesburg, Pa.) shared Freshman of the Week honors.
Neto batted .700 (7-10) with six runs, six RBI, three home runs and two doubles in three games last week. He opened with a 2-3 day that included a double, RBI and two runs in Campbell’s 9-8 win over UNC Wilmington on Tuesday. Neto then belted two home runs and drove in three in the Camels’ 7-0 victory Friday at Liberty. He was 3-3 with a double and homer in the series finale against the Flames. He also picked up the win on the mound in Tuesday's victory over UNCW.
Harrington scattered five hits and struck out seven batters in 7.0 innings Friday against Liberty. He did not walk a batter and allowed just one extra-base hit in the 7-0 victory over the Flames.
Little tossed two perfect innings and was the winning pitcher of record in Asheville’s 5-2 non-conference win over High Point last Tuesday. He retired all six hitters he faced, three by groundout and three by flyout.
Dooley hit .733 (11-15) in four games last week with four runs, four RBI, one double, one triple and two stolen bases. He opened with a 4-5 performance against Holy Cross on Monday, and went 4-4 against East Carolina on Wednesday. Dooley was 3-6 in a two-game set against Saint Joseph’s over the weekend.
Switalski started and won Gardner-Webb’s series-finale over Brown on Sunday afternoon with just two hits allowed in 7.0 innings of the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ 2-0 victory. He struck out 11 batters with only one walk in earning his first win of the season. Switalski struck out three batters in 3.2 innings earlier in the week against UNC Greensboro.
