Big South Announces Seedings for 2022 Men's Golf Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Two-time defending Big South Champion Campbell University has earned the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big South Men’s Golf Championship, which will be hosted by Gardner-Webb University at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. The Camels receive the No. 1 seed based on its current GolfStat national ranking of 121, the highest among the 10 Big South men’s golf programs.
High Point is ranked No. 131 in the nation by GolfStat and receives the No. 2 seed, just ahead of three-seeded Radford’s ranking of 141. Charleston Southern earns the No. 4 seed with its national ranking of 182. Gardner-Webb, ranked No. 204, will be the No. 5 seed in the championship, with Longwood (214) receiving the No. 6 seed. Winthrop receives the No. 7 seed (No. 223), just ahead of USC Upstate (No. 8 – 229). Presbyterian College (No. 9 – 251) and North Carolina A&T (No. 10 – 280) round out the seedings.
The Patriot Golf Club is hosting the Big South Men’s Golf Championship for the 16th time, as the course has hosted the event every year since 2008 in addition to 2005 and 2006. The 2022 Big South Men’s Golf Championship will be a par-72, 7,103-yard layout, and begins Wednesday, April 20 with an afternoon practice round, with the first and second rounds scheduled for Thursday, April 21. A three-day, 54-hole stroke play event will be held April 21-22, followed by a Semifinal/Final Match Play round featuring the top four team finishers from stroke play on Saturday, April 23. Championship action can be followed online via GolfStat’s “Live Scoring” feature. The 2022 champion from Match Play will receive the Big South’s automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. Meanwhile, the Big South Conference will present its 2022 All-Conference Team, All-Freshman Team, All-Academic Team, All-Championship Team and the annual award winners on Friday, April 22 following the 54-hole stroke event at the post-Championship awards ceremony. The team and runner-up trophies will be presented at the conclusion of Saturday’s Match Play competition.
