Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - April 25
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- UNC Asheville’s Dylan Bacot (Fayetteville, N.C.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week, while Campbell’s Thomas Harrington (Sanford, N.C.) is the league’s Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played from April 18-24. Longwood’s Michael Tolson (Fredericksburg, Va.) was named Relief Pitcher of the Week and North Carolina A&T’s Canyon Brown (Ormond Beach, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week selection.
Bacot hit .583 with a .650 on-base percentage and a 1.167 slugging percentage in four games last week. After a RBI single in Tuesday’s meeting with ETSU, he finished a conference road set at Radford 6-for-9 (.667) with nine RBI and six runs scored to lead the Bulldogs to a series win. He was a perfect 5-for-5 in the final two games, headlined by a 2-for-2 mark with five RBI and two runs scored in Saturday’s victory.
Harrington tossed six scoreless innings and claimed his ninth victory of the season in Campbell’s 9-2 win over Longwood last Friday. The sophomore recorded seven strikeouts and issued just one walk, as he remained unbeaten against conference opponents this season.
Tolson tossed four hitless innings of relief and claimed the save in Longwood’s 10-5 victory over league-leading Campbell on Sunday. Against the conference’s top offense in league play, the redshirt-sophomore allowed just one hit and struck out three en route to his fourth save of the season.
Brown closed last week 6-for-10 (.600) with three extra-base hits in North Carolina A&T’s road series at USC Upstate. After a 3-for-4 performance on Friday night, the catcher closed the series 3-for-6 with a pair of runs scored.
