SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Zack Byers capped a historic spring run on the course Sunday afternoon, finishing his final round at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship at the Grayhawk Golf Club.

Byers (Shelby, N.C. / Shelby HS) posted his best round of the weekend, carding a 76 on the 7,289-yard (Par 70) layout.

He started at 4:32 eastern time on the 10th tee and ran off five consecutive pars before a bogey on 15. Byers shot par on all but four holes Sunday afternoon and finished the tournament with a 233 (78-79-76).

Byers was the first golfer in Gardner-Webb history to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championship, punching his ticket to the NCAA West Palm Beach Regional by winning the 2022 Big South Conference individual title. He then went on to qualify for the big dance in Scottsdale with the low individual score at the PGA National Champions course.

The senior standout finished his final season with the Runnin' Bulldogs with the lowest scoring average of his career and had just one round over par over the past two months heading into action this week in Scottsdale.

The top-15 teams and top nine individuals not on those teams advanced, with the championship round beginning on Monday morning. Only four of the 163 golfers in attendance this week finished with scores below par after 54 holes.
