Big South Announces Seedings for 2022 Softball Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- For the first time in Big South history, three teams have tied for the softball regular-season championship following the conclusion of the regular-season, as USC Upstate, Campbell and Longwood all finished with a 21-6 conference record. Based on the league’s multi-team tiebreaker, Upstate is the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big South Softball Championship, which will be contested May 11-14 at Lancer Softball Stadium on the campus of Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
The Spartans won both season series against Campbell (2-1) and Longwood (2-1) to clinch their first Big South regular-season title since becoming members in 2018-19. Defending Champion Campbell, which was the 2020 regular-season champion, was a combined 3-3 against the two teams and won the season series over Longwood (2-1) to lock in the No. 2 seed. The host Lancers secured the No. 3 seed while claiming its first Big South regular-season crown since 2019. The top two teams earn a bye into the second day of the six-team double-elimination tournament.
Presbyterian College finished fourth in the Big South standings at 19-8 and is the No. 4 seed -- the Blue Hose’s highest since being the No. 3 seed in 2011. Charleston Southern earned the No. 5 seed with its 12-13 conference record, with Radford (12-15) receiving the sixth and final seed.
The 2022 Softball Championship begins Wednesday, May 11 with three games scheduled and concludes Saturday, May 14 with two potential Championship contests starting at 12:00pm. Every game will be broadcast on ESPN+, while Saturday’s Championship day will be simulcast on Nexstar Network affiliates WYCW (Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville/Anderson) and WWCW (Roanoke).
