High Point Voted 2022 Women's Cross Country Preseason Favorite
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Five-time defending Big South women's cross country champion High Point University has been voted the favorite in the conference's annual preseason poll by the league's head coaches, the conference office announce Monday.
The Panthers were a near unanimous selection as they received nine of the 10 first-place votes and 99 of a possible 100 total points to claim the top spot for the fifth consecutive season. Radford, last year’s Runner-Up, received the remaining first-place vote and 87 points to finish second in the poll, while Charleston Southern was third with 77 points.
Campbell finished fourth in the voting with 64 points -- just ahead of UNC Asheville, which placed fifth in the poll with 63 points. USC Upstate claimed sixth-place with 43 points, followed by Gardner-Webb in seventh with 38 points and Winthrop in the eighth position (33 points). Longwood landed in ninth (32 points) and Presbyterian College was 10th (14 points) to round out the preseason predictions.
The women’s cross country season begins Thursday, Sept. 1. The 2022 Big South Women’s Cross Country Championship is slated for Saturday, Oct. 29, in Farmville, Va., and will be hosted by Longwood University.
