Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Aug. 29
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell midfielder Kemy Amiche (Goussainville, France) and High Point forward Tony Pineda (Statesville, N.C.) have been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while HPU goalkeeper Holden Trent (Greensboro, N.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played the opening week of the regular-season, it was announced today. In addition, UNC Asheville midfielder Sam Pitts-Eckersall (Stratford-Upon-Avon, U.K.) is the Freshman of the Week.
Amiche helped the Camels open 2-0 with wins over Incarnate Word (3-0) and Houston Baptist (3-1), as he scored one goal and three assists. He scored Campbell’s second goal in Thursday’s victory over UIW with an unassisted tally at 53:31. On Saturday against Houston Baptist, Amiche posted an assist hat trick, as he had a hand in Campbell’s goals at 21:18, 36:52 and 49:09.
Pineda scored goals in both of High Point’s two contests last week. He first accounted for the game-winning score in the Panthers’ 1-0 season-opening win over Davidson on Thursday, as he put home a header off a corner kick at 86:36. On Sunday at No. 2 Georgetown, Pineda scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute of the eventual 1-1 draw against the Hoyas.
Trent played all 180 minutes in net last week for the Panthers and posted a 1-0-1 record with six saves and a 0.50 goals against average in the two matches. He first made three saves in blanking Davidson, 1-0, and came up with a huge stop with 18 minutes remaining the first half. On Sunday at nationally-ranked Georgetown, he made three first half saves and kept GU off the scoreboard the final 32 minutes.
Pitts-Eckersall tallied a hat trick in Asheville’s 5-3 home win over Georgia Southern on Sunday -- the first hatter by a Bulldog player since 2002. He scored the game’s first two goals -- first at 8:01 and again at 22:26, then netted the final goal of the game at 78:42 to give the Bulldogs a two-goal cushion.
