Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 16

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- Charleston Southern guard Claudell Harris Jr. (Hahnville, La.) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Presbyterian guard Jalen Forrest (Decatur, Ga.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 9-15, it was announced today.

Harris averaged 32.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 60.0 percent from the field (24-40), 55.6 percent from three-point distance (10-18) and converting all seven free throws in two games last week.  He first scored 34 points with seven rebounds and four assists in the Bucs’ victory over High Point last Wednesday.  Harris followed that performance with 31 points in a narrow-setback at Radford on Saturday.

Forrest made his first two career starts and contributed 17.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds for the Blue Hose last week, while shooting 48.0 percent from the floor (12-25) and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (4-8).  He opened with a career-high 20 points in PC’s overtime loss to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday.  Forrest then scored a team-high 15 points and handed out five assists with a blocked shot at High Point on Saturday evening.

Also nominated for Player of the Week: Ricky Clemons (Campbell), Jaden House (High Point), Isaiah Wilkins (Longwood), Kobe Stewart (Presbyterian), DaQuan Smith (Radford), Drew Pember (UNC Asheville), Jordan Gainey (USC Upstate) and Sin’Cere McMahon (Winthrop).

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Sam Perez (High Point), Kenyon Giles (Radford) and Justin Bailey (USC Upstate).
