Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 30

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– UNC Asheville midfielder/forward Stewart Patnaud (Cary, N.C.) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Pl­­­ayer of the Week, while the Bulldogs’ Charlie Farrar (Wakefield, United Kingdom) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 23-29, it was announced today. In addition, Presbyterian College forward Victor Faaborg Christensen (Gammel Holte, Denmark) and Longwood forward Darcy Moffat (London, England) have been selected as Co-Freshmen of the Week.

 

Patnaud tallied five points on two goals and one assist in two matches last week. He opened the week with a goal in the 10th minute against Furman and followed up with a three-point performance at Winthrop to propel Asheville to a 3-1 win over the Eagles. With the match tied at 1-1, Patnaud assisted on the go-ahead goal from teammate Conor Behan in the 78th minute. He then quickly gave the Bulldogs a two-goal advantage thanks to a score of his own less than five minutes later.

 

Farrar registered a career-high 10 saves in a win at Winthrop on Saturday. Seven of those saves came in the second half alone, as the Eagles peppered a total of 25 shots at the junior standing in between the pipes. With the win, Asheville secured three points and moved into sole possession of third place in the league standings with one match to play. 

 

Faaborg Christensen posted three points on one goal and one assist on Saturday at Longwood, contributing to both of Presbyterian’s goals on the day. The Blue Hose jumped on the Lancers early when he found teammate Damorney Hutchinson for the opening goal of the match in the 19th minute. He later scored a goal of his own at the 54:13 mark to tie the match at the time at 2-2.

 

Moffat scored in the first half to give Longwood a 2-1 lead against PC. His 39th minute goal came as he slipped through defenders and broke away before evading the goalkeeper for his second score of the season. He capped off the day with a pair of shots in 68 minutes as the Lancers never trailed after he found the back of the net.

 

Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Pablo Brimeux (Gardner-Webb), James Bolger (Longwood) and Damorny Hutchinson (Presbyterian).

 

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Odal Brown (Gardner-Webb) and Lucas Muller (Longwood).

 

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Jack Steel (UNC Asheville).
