Seedings and Pairings Announced for 2023 Big South Men's Soccer Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the first time since the 2021 Spring season,
High Point University is the Big South Conference Men’s Soccer regular-season champion, and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, it was determined following the conclusion of the conference season this evening. The top four teams in the final standings qualify for the league’s postseason championship, which will be contested Nov. 5 & 11 at campus sites. The Panthers, the defending Big South Tournament champion, finished the 2023 regular-season with 19 points and a 6-0-1 conference record for their fifth all-time outright Big South title.
UNC Asheville is the No. 2 seed after finishing second in the standings with 13 points (4-2-1 Big South) -- the Bulldogs’ highest conference finish since sharing the regular-season championship in 2001. Asheville will host No. 3 seed
Winthrop, which was third in the league with 11 points (3-2-2). The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles this past Saturday, 3-1, and Sunday’s match between the teams is scheduled for 2:00pm.
Gardner-Webb finished fourth in the standings with 9 points (2-2-3 Big South) to claim the fourth and final seed in the tournament, and will travel to No. 1 seed High Point on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 6:00pm. The teams played to a 1-1 draw during the regular-season.
The 2023 Big South Men’s Soccer Championship will be played at the higher seeds throughout the tournament, and begins Sunday, Nov. 5 with the Semifinals. The highest remaining seed will host the Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 11. All three matches of the tournament will be broadcast on ESPN+, and the Big South’s tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.
