Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - March 13

Lawson Harrill (Shelby, N.C.) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb’s
Casey Young (Milton, Ga.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played March 6-12, it was announced today. In addition, USC Upstate’s
Jake Cubbler (Mullica Hill, N.J.) was selected the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while Longwood’s
Ethan Barnes (Emporia, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Harrill belted three home runs and batted .600 (6-10) with six runs scored, eight RBI and a 1.600 slugging percentage. He also drew six walks and finished with a .750 on-base average. Harrill was 2-3 with a homer, two walks and stolen base in Campbell’s 13-11 win at Tulane, then went 1-3 with 3 RBI, 3 runs scored and 3 walks in a 16-15 victory at Appalachian State. Harrill concluded his week with a 3-4 day, two runs, a double and grand slam in Saturday’s 12-6 win over the Mountaineers.
Young tossed a 94-pitch complete game shutout in which he scattered just three hits with one walk while striking out eight batters in an 8-0 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday. He retired the side five times, and recorded seven of his eight strikeouts in the final five innings of the contest.
Cubbler earned a relief win and struck out 10 batters in 4.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He allowed just four baserunners in his two appearances. Cubbler first struck out a career-high-tying five hitters in 1.2 innings of work against Sacred Heart, then earned a victory over James Madison with another five punchouts in pitching the final 3.0 innings of Upstate’s 9-6 win over the Dukes on Saturday.
Barnes posted a .400 on-base percentage with four walks, three runs scored and three RBI, in addition to going 5-5 in stolen bases to help the Lancers go 3-2. He tallied a run, RBI, walk and two steals in a two-game series with College of Charleston, then notched two runs, two RBI and three steals in the Lancers’ sweep of Iona. Barnes accounted for three of Longwood’s five runs in a 5-4 win over the Gaels, and also swiped three bases in the contest.
