Big South Announces 2023 Women's Golf Annual Award Winners
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (
www.BigSouthSports.com) -- High Point’s
Sarah Kahn was named the 2023 Big South Women’s Golfer of the Year, while Campbell’s
Isabella Hahne was voted Freshman of the Year by the league’s head coaches and announced last Friday afternoon as part of the Women’s Golf Championship Awards Ceremony. Head coaches
Jordan Jeffers of Charleston Southern and
Lyndsey Hunnell of High Point were voted Co-Coach of the Year by the panel. Campbell junior
Sanna Lundmark was voted Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Big South’s sports information directors.
Kahn (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) won three times in 2022-23, including the Big South Championship where she posted a 1-over 217 (72-74-71) for a three-stroke victory as well as automatically qualify for the NCAA Regionals. She tied for the league lead with five Top 10 finishes this season, and owns the lowest stroke average (73.43) in the Big South following the conference’s postseason event. A three-time Big South Golfer of the Week honoree in 2022-23, Kahn carded six rounds in the 60s, including two of the four lowest rounds in the conference this season, while her 7-under 209 at the Pirate Collegiate Classic was the second-lowest 54-hole total in the Big South this year. She won the Grandover Fall Classic last September, was victorious at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in March -- in which she finished with a 3-under 213, and won both of her matches during the Match Play portion of the Big South Championship. Kahn is High Point’s first-ever Big South Golfer of the Year recipient.
Hahne (Kungsbacka, Sweden) is the first Campbell golfer since 2019 to receive Freshman of the Year honors, and the sixth overall. She was the conference’s highest-ranked golfer entering the conference championship at 194, and holds the second-best stroke average in the Big South at 73.50. Hahne earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors four times in 2022-23, and tied for fifth at the Big South Championship with a 225 for her third Top 10 finish of the year. She tied for medalist honors at the Seabest Intercollegiate in February with a 1-under 215, carded a season-low round of 69 three times this year, and won both of her matches in the Match Play portion of the Big South Championship to help the Camels win their seventh consecutive Big South title.
Jeffers and Hunnell were voted Co-Coach of the Year after leading their respective squads to top four finishes in the conference championship. For Jeffers’ Buccaneers, the team rallied in the final round to clinch the fourth and final Big South Match Play berth, and fell just short in the Semifinals, 3-2. His team won two events in 2022-23 -- the Edisto Island Invitational and Buccaneer Classic in back-to-back events, in addition to four other Top 5 finishes. Jeffers also coached
Caroline Engelbredt (Buccaneer Classic) and
Laerke Jensen (Lady Bison Bay Point Classic) to Medalist honors during the year, and directed his team to Top 10 finishes in nine of 10 events this year.
Hunnell capped her first season as High Point’s coach with a Runner-up finish in the conference’s Match Play Championship -- the Panthers’ first-ever berth in the Finals. The team’s second-place standing in the Stroke Play portion matched its best result, and HPU won its Semifinal match over Gardner-Webb, 3-2, before falling to Campbell in the Final, 3-2. Hunnell’s squad won two tournaments in 2022-23 -- the Grandover Fall Classic and the Rivertowne Intercollegiate, and tallied eight overall Top 10 finishes in 10 events. She coached Kahn to Big South Medalist and Player of the Year honors, while her roster combined for eight Top 10 individual finishes this season.
Lundmark (Skellefeå, Sweden) is a 3.951 student studying Business Management. She ranks sixth in the league in scoring average (74.81) following the conference championship, won her Semifinal Match in the Big South Match Play Championship, and posted two Top 10 finishes this year.
