Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - April 17

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell’s Jarrod Belbin (South Morang, Australia) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while the Camels’ Cade Kuehler (Waxhaw, N.C.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played April 10-16, it was announced today. In addition, Campbell’s Cade Boxrucker (West Chester, Ohio) was selected the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while Presbyterian College’s Kyle Mueller (Winter Haven, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

In five games, Belbin belted two home runs and batted .375 (9-24) with eight runs, eight RBI, two doubles, three stolen bases and a walk. He also finished with a .708 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage while registering at least one base hit in all five contests. Belbin opened the week by going 2-4 with a run and an RBI on Monday in a win over nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina. He added another hit, run and a stolen base the following day in the two-game series finale. On Friday, the redshirt-senior opened the weekend series against Longwood with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in a win over the Lancers. He added a hit and an RBI on Saturday, before closing out the week on Sunday going 3-5 at the plate with another three runs, three RBI, two doubles and a stolen base. 

Kuehler tossed 6.0 complete innings in his start last week, allowing only four hits, one run and a walk while striking out eight to earn his seventh win of the season against Longwood. He retired 12 batters in a row from the first through fifth inning, including striking out the side in the fifth. 

In two appearances, Boxrucker logged 6.2 innings of work while striking out 12 and allowing only three hits, one walk and no earned runs. He opened the week with 2.2 scoreless innings against No. 17 Coastal Carolina, striking out five and allowing no walks. He followed up with four shutout innings of extended relief against Longwood on Saturday, striking out a season-high seven batters in the longest scoreless outing of his career. 
 
Mueller pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless relief on Saturday against Winthrop. He allowed only two hits while striking out three, going on to earn the win against the Eagles. The Winter Haven, Fla. native entered with a 4-3 lead and in the fourth inning before escaping on a lineout without any damage done. He tossed a clean fifth inning, worked around a one-out single in the sixth and added a strikeout in both the seventh and eighth innings.

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Ashton Wilson (Charleston Southern) and Dalton Williams (High Point).
