Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - April 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Gardner-Webb’s Curtis Robison (Dillsburg, Pa.) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while Campbell’s Jake Murray (Wendell, N.C.) and USC Upstate’s Henry Proger (Menifee, Calif.) are the Co-Starting Pitchers of the Week for games played April 17-23, it was announced today. In addition, Charleston Southern’s Evan Truitt (Berlin, Md.) was selected the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while Presbyterian College’s Trey Fenderson (Spanish Fort, Ala.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

Robison tallied multiple hits in four of five games while recording an extra base hit in all five contests to help propel Gardner-Webb to a 4-1 record last week. Overall, he hit .417 (10-24) with five runs, four RBI, five doubles, a triple and one stolen base while logging a .708 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage. Robison opened the week with a triple and a run scored Tuesday at UNC Greensboro followed by a double, one RBI and one run scored in a win at Elon on Wednesday. He then went 7-of-13 with three RBI and three runs overall in the Runnin’ Bulldogs weekend series at Presbyterian with doubles accounting for four of his seven hits. 

Making his first-career start on Sunday, Murray pitched 5.0 innings while allowing no hits and striking out a career-high eight batters to earn a win over High Point. He yielded only three base runners in total after retiring the first six batters he faced before exiting with Campbell leading, 11-0. A redshirt-junior, Murray’s 5.0 innings logged were also a career high. 

Proger carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning en route to picking up a win over Radford on Saturday. Overall, he went 7.0 innings allowing only two hits, no earned runs and one walk while striking out nine, a career high. Proger also held the opponent to just a .087 batting average. 

Truitt made an extended appearance out of the bullpen as he logged 6.0 innings while giving up only one hit and one walk. Entering the game in the fourth inning trailing 3-2, he struck out 10 batters while holding Longwood without a single hit until the ninth inning en route to earning the win for Charleston Southern. 

In four games, Fenderson belted two home runs and one double while hitting .312 at the plate (5-16) with five RBI, four runs and two walks. He opened the week with a solo home run in a win over ETSU on Wedneday before adding a second homer on Saturday in a league win over Gardner-Webb. He finished with two RBI and a run scored in both contests over the weekend while tallying four hits overall against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

Also nominated for Relief Pitcher of the Week: Cade Boxrucker (Campbell), Dalton Wood (Gardner-Webb), Dominick D’Ercole (Longwood), Fenix DiGiacomo (Presbyterian), Justin Needles (UNC Asheville), David James (USC Upstate) and Zan Rose (Winthrop).
