ROCK HILL, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – With two first-place finishers Thursday and five individuals reaching the podium, defending champion High Point moved into the lead of the 2023 Big South Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships with 89 team points following the second day of competition at the Irwin Belk Track Complex on the campus of Winthrop University.  Campbell dropped into second-place with 66 points, with Charleston Southern holding onto the third position with 42 points.

Five individual champions were crowned on Thursday.  Charleston Southern’s Chloe Greene repeated as heptathlon champion with 4,851 points, and is the first back-to-back champion in the event since Liberty’s Kylie Polsgrove in 2017 and 2018.  High Point’s Alicia Dawson won the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 12.71m, becoming HPU’s first triple jump champion since 2003.

High Point took home the top three spots in the pole vault for the fourth-straight championship, as Sydney Horn won her third consecutive title (4.26m) -- becoming just the three-time Big South pole vault champion in conference history.  HPU’s Rachel Vesper (4.26m) and Anjali Mead (4.06m) followed Horn on the podium stand.  In the shot put, Campbell’s Patience Marshall won the conference championship for the second time in her career as she posted a mark of 14.97m.  Gardner-Webb’s Amy Prugh rounded out Thursday’s champions by winning the 3,000m Steeplechase in a time of 10:52.00 -- becoming the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ first-ever Big South steeplechase champion.
