UNC Asheville's Janet Cone Named 2023-24 Division I-AAA ADA President

CLEVELAND, Ohio The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) has selected Janet R. Cone, senior administrator for university enterprises and director of athletics at UNC Asheville, to serve as President for the 2023-24 membership year.

"I am grateful and honored to serve and lead the members of the I-AAA ADA as President for the 2023-24 year," stated Cone. "As we continue to grapple with NIL, the Transfer Portal, NCAA Transformation Recommendations, and the rising cost of athletics, I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on seeking solutions that will impact our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in positive ways and sustain a Division I Collegiate Model of Athletics."

Cone takes the reins from Robert Lineburg, director of athletics at Radford University, who will transition to Past President. Serving alongside Cone will be:
  • 1st Vice President Steve Watson, director of athletics at Loyola University Chicago;
  • 2nd Vice President Brandon Martin, vice chancellor and director of athletics at the University of Missouri Kansas City;
  • 3rd Vice President Shaney Fink, director of athletics at Seattle University;
  • Secretary Brian Barrio, director of athletics at UMBC; and
  • Treasurer Ken Kavanagh, director of athletics at Florida Gulf Coast University
DI-AAA ADA welcomes three new directors of athletics and a commissioner to the 2023-24 Executive Committee:
  • Jamie Boggs, Grand Canyon University (WAC);
  • Lenny Kaplan, New Jersey Institute of Technology (America East);
  • Christina Roybal, Northern Kentucky University (Horizon League); and
  • Dan Butterly (Big West Commissioner)
The remainder of the 2023-24 DI-AAA ADA Executive Committee consists of:
  • Scott Corley, Belmont University (The Valley); 
  • Mike Cragg, St. John's University (Big East);
  • Adrian Dowell, University of Nebraska-Omaha (The Summit); 
  • Tim Duncan, University of New Orleans (At-Large Rep and Southland).
  • Philip Hutcheson, Lipscomb University (ASUN); 
  • Bill Maher, Canisius College (Metro Atlantic); 
  • Mike Matoso, St. Mary's College of California (WCC);
  • Ed McLaughlin, Virginia Commonwealth University (A-10);
  • Paula Smith, University of California Irvine (Big West); and
  • Billy Walker, American University (At-Large Rep and Patriot League
