Big South Announces Volleyball Players of the Week - Aug. 28

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- High Point outside hitter Dylan Maberry (Magnolia, Texas) has been named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, while Charleston Southern’s Angelika Rusin (Opole, Poland) is the Big South Libero of the Week for matches played the opening week of the regular-season, the Conference office announced today.  In addition, UNC Asheville setter/outside hitter Albertine van der Goot (Oosthem, Netherland) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
 
Maberry recorded 57 kills, 4.38 kills per set, 26 digs, 2.00 digs per set, nine blocks, 0.69 blocks per set, 66.0 points and 5.08 points per set in matches against James Madison, UMBC and Ohio.  Named to the All-Tournament Team, Mayberry first posted 20 kills, five blocks, 24.5 points and two service aces in the Panthers’ five-set loss to the Dukes -- who received votes in the Top 25 preseason poll.  She tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs in a victory over UMBC, and finished her weekend with 22 kills, 11 digs and 24.5 points against Ohio.
 
Rusin tallied 66 digs and 5.50 digs per set, along with 16 assists, to help the Bucs open 2-1 with wins over Coastal Carolina and Elon.  After finishing with 14 digs in a setback to Charlotte, Rusin notched 24 digs in CSU’s five-set victory over Coastal.  She followed that performance with 28 digs in a four-set triumph over Elon (7.00 digs per set).
 
van der Goot finished with 35 kills, 2.69 kills per set, a .286 hitting percentage, 27 assists and 15 blocks in helping Asheville start 3-1 on the season.  She hit more than .300 in each of the Bulldogs’ victories, and posted 12 kills, 14 assists, six blocks and five digs in Asheville’s five-set win over N.C. Central on Saturday.
