Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 11
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Gardner-Webb forward Pablo Brimeux (Sanary-Sur-Mer, France) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Longwood goalkeeper Max Hinke (Marpingen, Germany) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 4-10, it was announced today. In addition, USC Upstate goalkeeper Cooper Jennings (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Brimeux scored his first goal of the season to help lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a draw against No. 8 James Madison last Tuesday (Sept. 5) in Boiling Springs. Looking to make a statement against one of the top teams in the nations, Brimeux capitalized off a turnover and struck for the first score of the match – unassisted – only 9:25 into play. Gardner-Webb ultimately went on to earn a 2-2 draw and became the only team this season to score two-plus goals on JMU.
Hinke totaled nine saves and allowed only one goal in 180:00 minutes during an unbeaten week in between the posts. The Lancer sophomore opened the week with three saves in a 1-1 draw with William & Mary. He then piled on another six saves in a shutout performance against Navy, helping Longwood beat the Midshipmen for the first time since 2015, 2-0. He finished with a .900 save percentage and a 0.50 GAA on the week.
Jennings tallied a whopping 13 saves last Tuesday (Sept. 5) at East Tennessee State. Ten of those came in the second half alone, including four in the final minutes of the match to preserve a 2-2 draw as the Spartans played down a man. Overall, Jennings faced 35 total shots on the night, while his 13 saves set a new USC Upstate program record.
